In order to receive a crown or a bridge from Southern Dental Associates at The Heights, you will need to make at least two visits to our office. During your first visit, we will take impressions which will be used to create a custom crown or bridge that blends in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration. When a crown is used to restore and protect an existing tooth, it is placed over the top of the visible part of the tooth, and it acts as a “cap” the existing structure. This can be done over a cracked tooth, a tooth with a deep cavity or after a root canal treatment. A Crown used to replace a missing tooth can be attached to a dental implant that has been surgically placed in the jaw. Crowns can also be used as support for a dental bridge.

What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are restorations that are used to replace multiple missing teeth in a row. A crown is placed over the teeth at either end of the gap in order to provide proper support for the natural-looking replacement teeth in the center. The crowns are referred to as “abutments,” and they provide support for the bridge. The replacement teeth “bridge” the gap where the original teeth were lost.
