Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are simple to apply, and they can make a dramatic difference in the look of your smile. We recommend veneers for a wide variety of dental concerns including worn-down enamel, discolorations and minor issues with spacing and alignment.

What is a veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin piece of dental material that is placed on the front surface of a tooth or teeth to mask a variety of imperfections. Patients love our ultra-thin veneers because they look and feel natural. At Southern Dental Associates at Katy, we offer top-quality, traditional porcelain veneers.

How is a dental veneer placed?

The process of applying veneers is simple. We begin by removing a very small amount of tooth enamel to ensure that the veneer fits properly. Next, we will clean the tooth to remove any tartar or plaque. We then dry the tooth and use an etching gel to roughen it slightly. This will allow the veneers to bond with the tooth. Finally, we apply the veneer to the tooth’s surface and secure it using a dental adhesive. We will then evaluate the bite and make sure the veneer is secure.

Do veneers hurt?

Getting a porcelain veneer is typically a pain-free procedure. In most cases, we will numb the tooth and surrounding area before removing the enamel. In many cases, however, this amount of enamel we remove is so small that anesthesia is not required. If you have any concerns about discomfort, be sure to let us know.
